As a Mohawk woman, I greatly respect the Indigenous women and men who put their daily lives on hold and endangered their physical and mental well-being to protect the sacred dormant volcano of Mauna Kea in Hawaii, the water systems of Standing Rock Sioux reservation and lands surrounding it, and continue to bring attention to the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Mirroring the “Instagram vs. reality” trend, the Instagram version of Thanksgiving is a holiday ostensibly about celebrating the joyous harvest feast between colonists of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people, but the reality is much different....

On Oct. 31, as Instagram users attempted to login to the social media platform to share exciting Halloween updates, many were met with a notice informing them that their account was randomly suspended. Users began reporting incidents of accounts being suspended for no apparent reason earlier this morning. DailyMail reports that per DownDetector, the mystery outage was initially reported around 13:08 GMT and is a widespread global issue. In addition to accounts being suspended, some users are also noticing their accounts are losing followers, likely due to other users being banned from the social media service, Instagram acknowledged the outage, tweeting this update: “We’re aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account....

Fulton County Animal Services, a shelter serving Fulton County, Georgia, posted a quick blurb about Coco on their Facebook page on Friday, August 12, and commenters jumped at the opportunity to dig deeper. “From Fulton Shelter to Super Stardom!” the shelter wrote, expressing their excitement to find that the pup they’d housed for a period of time in 2021 had become the breakout star of the summer.
